Book Review Monday – Miracles from Heaven – Book Giveaway

Welcome to Book Review Monday! Miracles from Heaven – A little girl, her journey to heaven, and her amazing story of healing – By Christy Wilson Beam Book Giveaway. Yep, it’s time again for Book review Monday and another giveaway as promised! What is book review Monday all about? I love to read! If you know me, you already know this to be true. If you don’t, well, one of my favorite things to do is read. I love it, but don’t always feel like I have the time to do so. Being a pastor, an author, and a speaker, one of the questions I always get from people is, “What are you reading?” I suppose it’s because they want to know what I would recommend, what inspires me, or what I’m feeding on. So, upon receiving an opportunity to giveaway some books, it got me thinking about my love for reading, but I never feel like I can make the time. Then it hit me – I came up with a brilliant idea – Book Review Monday!! Or at least I think it is brilliant. Plus it gives me a reason to read more! Let’s get started with – – – Book review Monday! I was very excited when Icon Media gave me an opportunity to giveaway another book. This time the book is Miracles from Heaven by Christy Wilson Beam. I haven’t read the other books out there about kids visiting heaven, so I was looking forward to reading the story of little Annabel Beam and her well documented medical miracle. What is Miracles from Heaven all...
Everything Red, White, & Blue … How I almost missed God speaking

Everything Red, White, & Blue … How I almost missed God speaking

Tweet The last month I have found myself drawn to everything red, white and blue. At first I shrugged it off as our nation’s birthday was fast approaching, and I was beginning to think about hosting our very first 4th of July party. It was an easy jump from thinking about party planning – to ‘needing’ to have the right decorations – to seeing everything red, white, and blue. I mean, I still hadn’t decided if we were going to host a party or not. Last summer, we sold our home of 17 years and moved to the lake house. The lake house that our dear friends who moved clear across the country used to own and the place we have went for the last several years to celebrate the 4th of July. So, I kind of felt obligated to have a party – I mean, it’s expected right? So, if it’s expected that I have a party, then I need to have the right decorations to go with it. You see, my friend Patti over at Old Things New Blog is the previous owner of the lake house. She set the bar pretty high on hosting a 4th of July shindig! (… and Super bowl parties, and … I think you get the picture.) Patti is fabulous, generous, and an extremely talented writer, decorator, DIY Crafter, furniture painter, hostess, and most importantly a Lover of Jesus! Oh, I could add more to the list of her accomplishments – You should hop on over to her blog and look around; in fact, you will see glimpses of my new...
Book Review Monday – Powerful & Free & Kelly Tough Giveaway Winner!

Book Review Monday – Powerful & Free & Kelly Tough Giveaway Winner!

Welcome to Book Review Monday! Today I am Reviewing — Powerful & Free by Danny Silk – Confronting the Glass Ceiling for Women in the Church Well, okay, it’s not actually Monday, but hey, I’m sure you will extend me grace, right? – I thought so.  I just got back from vacation then it was Father’s Day and well, I didn’t actually write; instead, I rested and relaxed with my family. Alright, enough about me and my reasons for not posting this review sooner. Being a woman in Ministry Leadership, I have been wanting to read this book for some time; in fact, it has been sitting on my nightstand since before Christmas. I have loved all the books by Danny Silk that I have read. My all-time favorite of his is Keep Your Love On. (If you haven’t read it yet – It’s a MUST!) <insert throat clearing noise here> Oh right, I need to stay on track with this week’s book review – Powerful and Free by Danny Silk. What’s it about? First let’s start with the back cover description: What comes to mind when you hear the phrase, “Women in Ministry”? 1.  Nursery Worker 2.  Children’s Leader 3.  Pastor 4. It’s complicated  If you are like most your answer would be, “It’s complicated”. Many believers are still confused about the proper place for women in the church. Powerful and Free is a call to address the structural message of inequality. It is not a theological treatise on the biblical case for female leaders (there are many excellent resources for this already). It is not a political...
9 Steps for Breakthrough

9 Steps for Breakthrough

Welcome! Last week, I left us with the encouragement that it is Time! Time to Arise and Shine, and take our rightful place in the Kingdom. This week, as I begin to write, I hear the bugle call playing. Bugle Call? Yeah, the bugle call they would play at the beginning of the battle right before the army would charge onto the battle field. Can you hear it, too? You know, after the bugle playing was done all the men would yell “Charge!” as they went to conquer the enemy. As I write this post, I can sense the anticipation of breakthrough and bounty we have been contending for. It is before us! Let’s Go get it! I feel as if this is the final week that I will be talking about how to position ourselves to receive the breakthrough and bounty, the prophetic word for 2015 talks about. Remember, in order to have a breakthrough, there must be a battle, and in order to receive bounty, there is a victory which brings rewards! If we are to position ourselves to receive all that God has for us we need to: 1.  Eliminate Fear in our lives and the enemy’s access to us. 2.  Understand our identity a. Whose we are and who we are i. Sons and daughters 3.  Begin to walk in our Inheritance as Sons and Daughters of the King. 4.  Begin to walk in our authority as Sons and Daughters of the King. 5.  Rise up and take our rightful place to help usher in the Kingdom. 6.  Strengthen ourselves in the Lord through Worship....
All Creation is Waiting!

All Creation is Waiting!

Tweet After taking an unplanned break last week from my regularly “planned” schedule, I am back and digging deeper in to the word for 2015 – A Year of Breakthrough and Bounty! Even the best made plans are always open to interruption from the Holy Spirit. Right? – Absolutely! As we continue to look at what can get in the way of our breakthrough and bounty, let’s recap the steps I have talked about so far:   No Longer Slaves – We have to change our mindset and begin living as the free sons and daughters we are! Inheritance – As children of God, His DNA is in us. We have been given a Spiritual Inheritance that we can begin to spend now! Authority – We have been given certain rights and privileges that come with son-ship. Spiritual Authority is a delegated power bestowed upon us by Jesus, so that we can carry on His work. Which brings me to this week’s point. Since we have been given Spiritual Authority, and we have a Spiritual Inheritance, we are supposed to be walking in right now, it’s time. Time to Rise Up – All Creation is waiting. What is it waiting for? You and I. The children of God to take our rightful place. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and...
