Flaming Arrows

Flaming Arrows

Tweet The arrow was flying fast and straight. It should have hit the mark – dead center, but at the last moment a gust of wind knocked it slightly off course. It missed the bull’s-eye completely; in fact, it didn’t even hit the target at all. The archer bellowed loudly, unable to contain his fury. There was no possible way that he could have missed. He had sized up the target, measured, planned, and studied everything that could possibly go wrong. What had happened to foil his well-laid plan? How could he tell his commander that he had failed to hit the mark? He hadn’t even come close.   Shoulders slumped and bent in defeat, he turned to walk away when something caught his attention. His eyes swung back to the target, perhaps he hadn’t missed after all…. The wind had stopped, and a light misty rain had begun. Standing in the middle of the field, unharmed, was the target raising her hands. She was dancing and singing praise to her God. She seemed like such an easy mark. He had been targeting her for weeks, filling her mind with doubt, causing discouragement, and foiling her plans. She seemed so defeated and helpless that he knew the time was right. So, what had caused the wind to move the arrow? He scanned the horizon and saw people praying. Some prayers were simply “Lord, keep her safe, protect her.” He also recalled that her lips had been moving just moments before he let loose the arrow. He hadn’t thought a thing about it at that moment because there was no audible...

Book Review Monday-Empire’s End & Book Giveaway!

Tweet Welcome to Book Review Monday! Empire’s End – By Jerry B. Jenkins Book Giveaway. It’s time again for Book Review Monday and another Giveaway!! What is book review Monday all about? I love to read! If you know me, you already know this to be true. If you don’t, well, one of my favorite things to do is read. I love it, but I don’t always feel like I have the time to do so. Being a pastor, an author, and a speaker, one of the questions I always get from people is, “What are you reading?” I suppose it’s because they want to know what I would recommend, what inspires me, or what I’m feeding on. So, upon receiving an opportunity to giveaway some books, it got me thinking about my love for reading, but I never feel like I can make the time. Then it hit me – I came up with a brilliant idea – Book Review Monday!! Or at least I think it is brilliant. Plus it gives me a reason to read more! Be Still …

Be Still …

Tweet “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) It started as typical morning, like many before and many after. We had just gotten back from the gym, I had made our eggs, and we went out on the deck to cool down and eat. My husband eats so fast and was finished long before I was, so he was already off to work, and I was just finishing. I sat, dog in my lap, computer on the table, looking out over the water not really thinking about anything, and yet, everything at the same time – truth be told, I was still sitting because I was a little sore from my morning workout and not quite ready to move – when I heard it. – thrummm, thrummm, thrummm – – It was the distinct sound of a hummingbirds wings. I began looking around to see where it was at. I quickly grabbed my iPhone hoping to be lucky enough to get a picture. Then, the sound was gone. I just love hummingbirds, but they usually don’t stick around long enough for me to snap a picture, or be close to them. I usually get to watch them through the windows as they come to feed on my plants. Then I heard in my heart – “Be still…..” “Ok God, I will be still, but why?” I heard it again, “Be still…..” So the dog and I sat; we waited, we watched, and we were still. All the while Psalm 46:10 running through my head. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) I had...
Choose Me!

Choose Me!

Tweet Long before the minions were on the scene there were these guys – The little green aliens from Toy Story. They are my absolute favorite characters. Don’t get me wrong, I love the minions; they are cute, funny and adorable. They make me laugh, and yes, I went to watch their new movie, even though I had no young children to take with me.  I, especially, love all the meme’s and funny posts on Facebook with the minions. Yet, there is just something about the little green aliens that has always had a piece of my heart.   When we go to Disneyland, my favorite ride is Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blaster. Not because I am good at it, but because I am surround with the little green aliens. I just love them! I know, it seems strange. My family accuses me that it’s because they are my favorite color of green. And while, that doesn’t hurt, that isn’t why I like them so much. I’m greatly disappointed that the little green guys haven’t gotten their own movie. In fact, when I voice that to my grown children, they just roll their eyes and sigh. My daughter said in response once, “We know mom, but in all honesty, they were only in the movie for a minute or maybe two. They weren’t the star of the show and well, they never really said anything.” “That is so untrue,” I said in shock and disbelief. “They had lines!” “Oh right – … ooooh, the claaaawww, and you have been chosen!” she said laughing. Well, that isn’t all they say, but...
Will you sit with Me?

Will you sit with Me?

Tweet Walking down a well-worn path, there was a sad and lonely bench off to my left. It beckoned me to come and sit for a minute and rest. A thousand excuses were running through my mind: “I can’t, I have too many things to do.” “The bench is so old and tattered, it might fall apart if I sit on it.” “I have to go off the path, I might get dirty.” “I could encounter a snake (ewww!) and that would be most unpleasant.” The random thoughts continued to pepper my mind, and yet, I still felt this pull to go and sit, if even for a minute. Photo Credit: Public Domain Silencing the screaming thoughts, I began making my way toward the bench. As I made my way, I noticed that there was once a path, but it had been overgrown with brush and debris. The closer I got to the bench, there was a sense of familiarity. Why did this bench call to me? It seemed to draw me in. Had I been here before? It seemed so. Finally, arriving at the bench, I surveyed my surroundings. From the vantage of the path it had looked desolate, broken-down, and forgotten. However, as I stood right in front of the bench I saw it differently. It was a sanctuary. A sanctuary that radiated peace. Photo Credit: Old Things New A huge oak tree provided shade from the sun, or shelter from the rain. There were wildflowers growing all around it in a beautiful array of colors. And the bench – the bench itself was a masterpiece of...
