Some Gave All

Some Gave All

Tweet It was an ordinary Tuesday at the end of April, just like many before and many after. I was on my way to an appointment driving a familiar route past the schools and the cemetery. Most days, as I drive this route, it is uneventful, not much going on to draw my attention.  It seems lately, that every time I drive by the cemetery they are having another memorial service, and I will say a quick prayer for the families as I drive by.  This day however, something was different.  Maybe it was the canopy setup so close to the road for a memorial service that caught my attention, but no one was there.  It was then my eyes were drawn to two young men at a grave. As my eyes did a quick scan of the area, I noticed these two young men.  One was sitting crisscross applesauce – the other was on his knees with one knee pulled up to his chest and he was hugging it as one would hug a teddy bear for comfort. My heart was overwhelmed with a deep sadness for these young men as I continued to watch.  I kept one eye on the road and one eye on them. The traffic was unusually heavy this time of day and the light ahead was red – causing the traffic to back up.  My car happen to stop dead even with where these young men where in the cemetery.  It was then that I noticed the flags decorating the name plaque and the 20-oz brown beer bottle sitting on the headstone. My...
When Life Gives You Lemons…Plant Trees!

When Life Gives You Lemons…Plant Trees!

Tweet Well, it’s one week later from my “when life gives you lemons…” post.  This week, I was hoping to say, “Hey, we have a solution!” However, we don’t.  There have been no billboards, flashing neon signs, not even a sign post from God pointing us in a direction.  It seems we are in the same spot as we were last week, only now the clock is ticking and a decision must be made in 27 days. We are still missing some key figures. Oh, but wait, they should be here next week.  Yep, been there, heard that before. So how does one hear God in all the noise and distractions?  Distractions of other people’s thoughts/opinions, your own thoughts, and even the static noise of fear. …Fear of the unknown that is edging ever so close to the circle of peace you are living in. I teach others how to hear God and drown out all the other voices vying for their attention, and yet it seems, right now, I can’t hear Him.   I have peace and trust that God is our provider, and yet, I/we are still unclear as to what path we are to take.  It is really hard to make a decision without all the facts. I have been contemplating why we haven’t yet heard God clearly say, “This is the way, walk in it.” I begin to wonder why He is remaining silent on the matter? Is it because He has already spoken and we missed it? Has He already spoken and we are too afraid to fully trust the road less traveled? Is it...
When life gives you lemons…

When life gives you lemons…

Tweet When it rains, it pours… Everything than can go wrong will go wrong…. When life gives you lemons…… When life throws you a curve ball…… For the past three weeks, these and phrases just like them have been bombarding my thoughts and trying to assault mind.  Three weeks and two days ago (but who’s counting), my husband’s company announced that they were making cuts across the board and would be disclosing details within the week. When, he first heard the news, and shared it with me, questions began to swirl in my head.  Would he have a job?  Would our son have a job?  What would happen to us, our home, our life, the church we pastor????  My mind was racing as I was trying to collect information to stop my mind from racing and things from spinning out of control. I asked if he was concerned and what he thought.  I asked all the above questions and more.  Poor guy.  He didn’t really have anything to go on other than 11-12% cuts across the board, internationally.  He said, he wasn’t too concerned about his job or his position, and he felt our son’s job would be fine too. However, the next day as his company began to announce their plans for the first wave of cuts, he received an email, about a mandatory site meeting. They had already begun to make announcements and closures.  The ripple effects where beginning to spread throughout the company about what they were doing. My husband walked out of his office and informed me, he had a mandatory meeting in two days...
What’s in a name?

What’s in a name?

(This post may contain affiliate links. When you shop through my links, it helps keep Dare 2 Hear online) Tweet Growing up I never really liked my name.  I didn’t think it sounded cool enough, and it seemed rather boring and plain to me. Then you add in my last name (McEldowney…my maiden name) which no one could ever pronounce and well, it was a recipe for extreme dislike. That is, until I realized my name was very significant and important to the destiny and purpose God had for me. God had a hand in choosing my name, whether my parents knew it or not. A few weeks ago, I started a series called No More Excuses about God calling out our destiny just like He did for Gideon (Judges 6-8).  Then last week, I shared about four lessons from Gideon’s life as we Boldly Go forward in what God has for us to do.  So what do these previous post have to do with me not liking my name? Wait, I promise, I will get there. Last week, lesson #2 was Awaken to your Destiny!  I shared the following: 2. Awaken to your Destiny Gideon had to be awakened to his destiny and often the same is true of us.  God expands and uses the abilities He has already given us. In spite of what we see as our limitations and failures – God see’s our potential and gives us a name in line with our destiny. When the angel shows up, he speaks Gideon’s destiny!         Mighty Warrior – Mighty Man of Valor He calls out the...
