Guess What? It’s Officially Fall Y’ALL!  YAY… My husband will now allow me to decorate for fall, since both Siri and Alexa have indeed confirmed it is fall in the northern hemisphere as of today! LOL Fall is one of my favorite seasons, because of all the beautiful colors of changing leaves and it bring me one step closer to the holidays!

Our Summer Guest Blogs, have carried over into September and Fall, with today’s Tune In Thursday Guest Blog from Roseann being the last official one!  I plan to be back next week with a post to share.

Now, let me introduce you to today’s guest, Roseann Hampton.  I met Roseann online as we often used to link up near each other at link parties.  One thing I know about Roseann is she is a woman who seeks to find Joy in the everyday.  She is also a woman who doesn’t back down from a fight. (She is a determined fighter).  As you can read from her Bio she has lived with autoimmune  diseases, but she doesn’t let them stop her from living life and making a difference in the lives of those she meets.

Title: Be The Change

This is the first week of school for the students in our school district. Every year our school has a theme. In the past we’ve had an ocean theme and for the last few years it has centered around superheroes. At the end of last school year we voted on a new theme for this year – # BeTheChange. So what does it mean to “Be The Change?

When Mahatma Gandhi said these words he wasn’t referring to changing the world. He was referring to changing ourselves –  “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”  But when we change ourselves to be more Christlike, don’t we have the opportunity to change the world?

If we follow the instructions given by Paul in Colossians 3:10 to “put on the new self . . . we become a person increasingly designed to grow more like Christ”. In doing so we become someone who shows compassion, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love.  We need to be doers of the word not just hearers, James 1:22-25. When we let our light shine we become doers not just hearers.  We show these characteristics to those around us. And we never know how that light will spread.

I’ve been teaching for 20 years. I work in a Title I school – 75% economically disadvantaged.  In that time I’ve touched thousands of students trying to show each of them compassion, patience and love. And you never know when you might #BeTheChange for any one of them.

I received an email from a girl I taught about 15 years ago when she was in 6th grade.  She was actually in juvenile detention for part of the year I taught her for troubles at home. Her brothers were now both in jail but she wanted me to know that because of the fact that I cared about her, she stayed out of trouble. She was now in college. And she was studying to be a teacher so that she could do for her students what I did for her – show compassion, patience and love! She now has the opportunity to #BeTheChange.

It begins with us. Each person has the ability to make a difference when the light is shining.   When you think about the many people you touch each day, how many of those people are seeing your light?

So, how about you?  What are some ways you can be more Christlike? How can you #BeTheChange? Turn on your light and together we can make a difference!

 

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phillipians 4:8
