One Nation Under God & Tune in Thursday #18

One Nation Under God & Tune in Thursday #18

Tweet I grew up in a day and age when we would start every school day the same exact way.  In each separate classroom of our public elementary school, the teachers followed the same routine.  The class was called to attention; we would stand facing the American flag which was usually hung at the front of the classroom.  We children stood, with right hands over our little hearts and recite:  “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” That was then, this is not so much now.  Then, I never heard anyone complain about the use of God’s name in the pledge or on our money.  Now, I hear people complain about it all the time.  Honestly, I am not even sure if The Pledge of Allegiance is allowed in a public school, let alone the phrase, “One Nation Under God.” One nation under God … One Nation Under God … This phrase, said more like a heartfelt whisper of prayer has been rolling around in my head and heart all week.   My heartfelt prayer is: Make Us One Nation Under #God !Powered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This It began when we started the preparations of readying the outdoors for our family and friends to arrive in celebration of July 4th.  Living on a lake has its perks:  The view is beautiful, and serene, but the upkeep demands time and effort.  For summer, on my front porch I have a wooden sign, that is...
Freedom on My Mind

Freedom on My Mind

Tweet The holiday weekend is fast approaching, and many of our thoughts are already on what food we will be eating, what activities we will be doing, and where we will watch the fireworks to celebrate. So, how do you refer to this Holiday? Independence Day? The 4th of July? July 4th? I have always said, “the 4th of July.” However, this year, I find myself saying Independence Day. Why the sudden change? I mean, I’m no spring chicken and I have been calling it the 4th of July for over four decades. It’s not as if I am young and impressionable and someone swayed my thinking. Or did they? But who?     As I sit contemplating the question of the hour, “When did I begin to refer to it as Independence Day?” I realize, that this is the first year I have referred to it as such. Why the sudden change? Hmmm more pondering…. Lately I have had FREEDOM on my mind. Every time, I say the word or hear the word lately, I want to scream at the top of my lungs – much like Mel Gibson did in the movie Braveheart… F R E E D O M ! I do refrain myself from actually screaming it, just in case my family thinks I have gone crazy.  So, instead, I just imagine it in my mind being shouted that way.       Maybe, it’s because I am more aware that we live in a country that is Free and we have freedom because of the numerous men and women who have given their all...
Some Gave All

Some Gave All

Tweet It was an ordinary Tuesday at the end of April, just like many before and many after. I was on my way to an appointment driving a familiar route past the schools and the cemetery. Most days, as I drive this route, it is uneventful, not much going on to draw my attention.  It seems lately, that every time I drive by the cemetery they are having another memorial service, and I will say a quick prayer for the families as I drive by.  This day however, something was different.  Maybe it was the canopy setup so close to the road for a memorial service that caught my attention, but no one was there.  It was then my eyes were drawn to two young men at a grave. As my eyes did a quick scan of the area, I noticed these two young men.  One was sitting crisscross applesauce – the other was on his knees with one knee pulled up to his chest and he was hugging it as one would hug a teddy bear for comfort. My heart was overwhelmed with a deep sadness for these young men as I continued to watch.  I kept one eye on the road and one eye on them. The traffic was unusually heavy this time of day and the light ahead was red – causing the traffic to back up.  My car happen to stop dead even with where these young men where in the cemetery.  It was then that I noticed the flags decorating the name plaque and the 20-oz brown beer bottle sitting on the headstone. My...
Giving Honor – The Unsung Hero

Giving Honor – The Unsung Hero

Tweet Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. (Romans 13:7) Have you ever been in a hurry to get your errands done, so you run into the store with a single focus? You don’t have time for idle chitchat or making new friends –it’s a get in, get out moment. Only to be interrupted by someone or something? You have experienced it too, haven’t you? It was a Tuesday afternoon a few weeks ago. I was getting ready to leave town for a two week trip. I had my list of things to do and items that I needed to buy. I don’t know why I saved so many things until the last minute, but hey, I did. Armed with my list of items to buy for a church event I had a plan – make the rounds as quickly as possible and get back home to pack, and then leave for the airport. Did I mention I had a plan? Yes, I had a plan, and it was to get in and out with the focus and efficiency of a Special Forces reconnaissance team. Well, it seemed that God had other plans for me that day. Last week, I shared about how I kept finding myself drawn to everything red, white and blue, thinking it was just because our nation’s birthday was fast approaching. However, it was a moment where I almost missed God speaking to me. Here it is again, a moment when I almost missed out on a...
9 Steps for Breakthrough

9 Steps for Breakthrough

Welcome! Last week, I left us with the encouragement that it is Time! Time to Arise and Shine, and take our rightful place in the Kingdom. This week, as I begin to write, I hear the bugle call playing. Bugle Call? Yeah, the bugle call they would play at the beginning of the battle right before the army would charge onto the battle field. Can you hear it, too? You know, after the bugle playing was done all the men would yell “Charge!” as they went to conquer the enemy. As I write this post, I can sense the anticipation of breakthrough and bounty we have been contending for. It is before us! Let’s Go get it! I feel as if this is the final week that I will be talking about how to position ourselves to receive the breakthrough and bounty, the prophetic word for 2015 talks about. Remember, in order to have a breakthrough, there must be a battle, and in order to receive bounty, there is a victory which brings rewards! If we are to position ourselves to receive all that God has for us we need to: 1.  Eliminate Fear in our lives and the enemy’s access to us. 2.  Understand our identity a. Whose we are and who we are i. Sons and daughters 3.  Begin to walk in our Inheritance as Sons and Daughters of the King. 4.  Begin to walk in our authority as Sons and Daughters of the King. 5.  Rise up and take our rightful place to help usher in the Kingdom. 6.  Strengthen ourselves in the Lord through Worship....
One Stone At A Time

One Stone At A Time

We are half way through this year! Yes, I know, it seems unbelievable that we are beginning the 6th month of 2015.   As I sit here contemplating which topic to discuss this week, I will be completely transparent and say that even though I have a rough outline of topics for the weeks to come, I have been staring at a blank screen for over a week. So, instead of force something to come, I am going to take a week off from what I had “planned” and just speak from my heart. I am discouraged, frustrated, and even a little mad. I was so excited for this year especially since the Lord said it was to be a year of breakthrough and bounty. I had hoped to have breakthrough and bounty manifesting in my life by now! In fact, I was envisioning breakthrough in several areas, and especially in one particular area. Maybe you are like me and wondering where your breakthrough is, and why you aren’t seeing it yet. Maybe you’ve gotten your breakthrough and are awaiting your bounty. Maybe you are already reaping the bounty of your breakthrough and anticipating with excitement what more will be coming your way in 2015. Maybe you are wondering what in the world I am talking about, if so you can read 2015 – A year of Breakthrough and Bounty! here and follow along with the other posts I have written. Why am I so upset you ask? Well, let me tell you. I have been writing a book for the last 5 years. It should be finished, should have...
