Over the next few weeks, I am going to write about the things that can get in our way of obtaining our breakthrough and bounty for this year. When God speaks through a prophetic word; sometimes, He is telling us what is to come. It doesn’t just, “poof!” happen, and everything falls into place; although, that would be nice. Sometimes there are things in our lives that need to shift or change in order for us to receive that which He has spoken.
When the newest album from Bethel Music came out, “We Will Not Be Shaken,” I was captivated by the song “No Longer Slaves” by Johnathon David and Melissa Helser. I had it on repeat for days. It’s interesting because I don’t have fear issues like I used to and would have easily dismissed the notion that I did. Yet, something in my spirit needed this song. Truth be told, I still deal with fear, I am nowhere near as bad as I used to be, but every now and then, it pops its head up and paralyzes me. Faith and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time, one has to go, and it must be fear!
In the past, I have had such a huge issue with fear of man. I was a people pleaser more than I was a God pleaser. I worried more about what people would think about me rather than what God did. I would be fearful over stepping out in obedience to what God was asking me to do because of what “man” might think. But God is my Father, and I want to please Him, but more than that I want to do what He asks me to do. I have learned that my ways are not His ways, and my thoughts are not His thoughts. I am His daughter … We are sons/daughters of Gods – no longer does disobedience, sin, or fear have a place in our lives.
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “”Abba,” Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children (Romans 8:15-16).
I consider these verses from Romans 8 important life scriptures for me personally. When I was struggling years ago with not being worthy enough, not good enough, not deserving enough, etc. God directed me to these two verses. He began to show me what my true identity was. I needed a total overhaul in my thinking, honestly, some days I still need my thinking adjusted.
Jesus’ whole reason for coming to this earth was not just to save the lost but to restore us back to our rightful place as the sons and daughters of God. This happens through the process of salvation, forgiveness, and regeneration with His blood and the Spirit. Salvation is accomplished not only by the cleansing of the blood, but also through regeneration by his spirit, or being born again. Once our spirit has been born again, or regenerated then His spirit comes to live inside us.
Regenerated means: to revive or produce anew; bring into existence again.
I often teach people that they need to understand, “Who they are and whose they are!” It really isn’t about us, but Him working through us. Our identity, what makes us valuable, is God! We are His kids. It’s our position in Christ, which sets us free from the slavery to fear, slavery to sin, and breaks every chain.
Our first step in positioning ourselves to receive the promises and prophecies God has spoken to us is to understand who we are and whose we are. The indwelling Spirit of God makes us The Sons of God. As born again believers, the only thing between you and manifesting Sonship is knowledge and application. I will share more on this in the weeks to come to come. However, step one is getting the knowledge from our head to our hearts that we are no longer slaves to fear, but we are sons/daughters of God and begin to walk it out!

Thank you for sharing and writing. I found your blog through a link up and read this post about fear. The Lord has recently revealed that fear is a root to a lot of other issues in my walk. He has carefully been unraveling me just to point this out. Thank you for your encouragement!

When I first heard this song a few months ago I used the same word…”unraveling”. The Holy Spirit had been speaking to my heart about fear in so many ways…coincidence? I don’t think so. I was reading a devotion about a year ago from the same person who wrote Jesus Calling (I can’t remember the name of this one) and this spoke deeply to my heart: “Relax in my presence, knowing that nothing can separate you from My love. The worst-case scenario in your life-that I might stop loving you-is not even in the realm of possibility. Since the worst thing imaginable is not possible, you can relax and live more abundantly.” We are secure in our place as sons and daughters. Thank you Jesus.
