In light of the word for 2015 I shared a few weeks ago for the body of Christ, I felt the Lord was directing me to write about the things that can get in our way of obtaining our breakthrough and bounty for this year. I am sure you know and have experienced that in order to have a breakthrough there must be a battle, and in order to receive bounty, there is a victory which brings rewards!
Last week I shared the first step in contending for our promises and prophecies is to eliminate fear from our life and recognize “Who you are and Whose you are!” You can find it here: No Longer Slaves.
If you didn’t get a chance to read the word for 2015, you can find it here: 2015 – A Year of Breakthrough and Bounty!
This week I want to talk about what it means to be the Sons and Daughters of the King.
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation–but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “”Abba,” Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory (Romans 8:12-17).
Romans 8 is rich with promises for all believers and speaks to how we should be living life in the Spirit. A life of freedom because of Jesus’ sacrifice. A life being not only a child of God, but His heir!
There are certain rights and privileges that come with son-ship. For this post, I would like to talk about inheritance.
A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children (Proverbs 13:22).
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12)
What is an Inheritance? Below is a definition from Dictionary.com
Inheritance
1. Something that is or may be inherited; property passing at the owner’s death to the heir or those entitled to succeed; legacy
2. The genetic characters transmitted from parent to offspring, taken collectively (It’s in our DNA – see below)
3. Portion; birthright; heritage:
I like to define inheritance this way:
Inheritance: To receive as a legacy or promise; to come into possession of or receive as a rightful heir. The acquisition of a possession from past generations.
We all know that an inheritance in the natural helps us start out ahead. When we receive an inheritance, someone else paid a price for it, and we receive something for free. It gives us a boost, a little extra something. It’s Spending Power!
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession–to the praise of his glory. 15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, (Ephesians 1:13).
The same is true in the spiritual. Jesus died and paid the price for us so we could receive our inheritance. God loves His kids, and He has given us an inheritance in the Kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit is the deposit guaranteeing that inheritance. The Word of God is full of promises that were spoken to, over, and about the children of God, just like what is found in Romans 8. We receive these things when we say YES to Him.
It’s in our DNA! DNA is the genetic characteristics transmitted from parent to offspring. Once we become part of God’s family by receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have the genetic characteristics of our Parent. His DNA becomes a part of us, making us His heir, giving us a legal right (with spending power) to our inheritance. The Holy Spirit is a part of us if we have been born again. If we have asked for and received the Holy Spirit baptism, the fullness of our genetic characteristics is released, giving us a greater ability to claim and walk in our inheritance.
Every promise of God belongs to us, it is part of our inheritance as a child of God, We don’t have to pray for it, we don’t have to fast for it, we don’t have to be good enough for it, and we don’t have to earn it. We just have to take our place as His Sons/Daughters and receive it.
What is our Spiritual Inheritance?
In my training manual “Releasing Gods Heart, Through Hearing His Voice,” I go in depth about what our spiritual inheritance is. Jesus paid a price for us, but we get for free, simply by saying YES to Him. Here is a sampling of our inheritance:
- Salvation
- Baptism Holy Spirit
- Authority
- Hearing God
- Healings
- Setting Captives Free
- Miracles, Signs, Wonders,
- All these things & more found throughout the pages of scripture are a part of our inheritance.
God’s economy is not like our natural economy. We don’t have to wait to begin walking in and utilizing our inheritance. Yes!!! WE HAVE AN inheritance that is ours to use while we are here on earth, but many of us are waiting. Waiting for when God returns to begin walking in or waiting until we get to heaven to receive it. Yes, there are things that we will receive at that time, but NOW is the time to begin to take our rightful place as sons/daughters of GOD!
What an encouragement to know that we don’t have to wait for our inheritance. We have received it and can start walking in it right now. Good teaching. Keep preaching it sister!
Blessings to you Deb,
Patti
Thanks so much.
This was great, Debbie! I especially love the part about our spiritual DNA!! How the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to claim and walk in our inheritance as our genetic characteristics are released. Great way to put it!
