Have you ever noticed that God likes to ask open-ended questions?
Questions that we initially think we know an answer to but upon further inspection the question reveals our lack of understanding?
This happened to me about a month ago. I don’t even remember what I was doing, but I clearly understood the question, and thought I knew the answer.
“Debbie, do you understand your true Kingdom identity?”
I immediately responded, “Yes, sure I do. I am a child of God, a princess, a daughter of the King.”
To which God whispered, “then why aren’t you walking in it?”
What ?!? …
If this was a movie, relaxing music would be playing all nice in the background and in this moment, you would hear the screeching halt or scratch of the needle on a record bringing the music to an abrupt end.
The question was asked gently, but within it a challenge to go deeper, to explore more, to search and seek more of Him was there. Over the course of a few days, God began to bring to mind several passages of Scripture.
I will admit, that I thought I understood my identity in Christ, and maybe some of you would say the same thing. However, after reading the Scriptures, meditating on His words, and examining my own life, I realize, while I may have had a level of understanding my identity in Christ, as a child of God, I wasn’t walking in it to its full potential, nor did I have the fullness of understanding that I need.
When God asked if I understand my true Kingdom identity?” I knew He was challenging me to examine my heart and my actions. Since I don’ t like to be all alone in my journey, I figured I would put it out there, so you can join me too, if you want to.
Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:10
Your Kingdom Come Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven!
Hebrews 13:8 also tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and forever.
Which basically means, if He did it then, He will do it today, and He will continue to do so until He returns.
I began to contemplate: If we truly understood our identity, our God given authority (delegated and given to us by God), our power in Christ, then why do we not see more miracles or healings today?
If we truly understood our Kingdom identity, then why is there sickness, disease and horrific tragedies or natural disasters which result in the loss of life?
The truth is, there is sickness, disease, and evil is prevalent in the world today, because this world is under the curse and dominion was given to Satan. Satan, the prince of the power of the air and darkness, was given dominion over the earth back in the Garden of Eden. (see Eph 2:2).
But there is another truth. The truth is, that we as God’s people, His chosen people, are not walking in our full God given authority and power. I don’t say this to point fingers, I say this for us to be challenged to go deeper in the things of God (myself included).
The authority I am talking about is God given – God delegated authority. We cannot do it on our own. We can’t just decide we have authority and power. It’s us understanding that we must partner with God and allow His power to flow through us.
Jesus modeled this for us, when He spoke in John 5:19-20 telling us that He only does what the Father shows Him to do and speaks only what He is told to speak. We are operating under delegated power and authority. It’s His power working in and through us – it’s a partnership – us partnering with the Holy Spirit.
On my journey to go deeper into discovering who I am as a chosen child of God, I have been meditating more on this Scripture from Romans 8.
The entire universe is standing on tiptoe, yearning to see the unveiling of God’s glorious sons and daughters! For against its will the universe itself has had to endure the empty futility resulting from the consequences of human sin. But now, with eager expectation, all creation longs for freedom from its slavery to decay and to experience with us the wonderful freedom coming to God’s children. To this day we are aware of the universal agony and groaning of creation, as if it were in the contractions of labor for childbirth. And it’s not just creation. We who have already experienced the first fruits of the Spirit also inwardly groan as we passionately long to experience our full status as God’s sons and daughters—including our physical bodies being transformed. For this is the hope of our salvation. (Romans 8:19-20 The Passion)
I memorized these verses many years ago in the NIV which state “… creation waits in eager expectation …” But, I love The Passion translations wording. The whole imagery with creation standing on tip-toe, yearning, pressing forward, and waiting for you and me to rise up, to take our place as God’s Kingdom Kids.
You and I, we are the sons and daughters of God. Knowing it, understanding it, and walking it are entirely different things.
What is it that we need to understand in order to walk in our full kingdom identity?
I think for each of us it is different because we are at different places in our spiritual walk with Christ. If you would have asked me if I knew who I was and whose I was, I would say yes! But just as in all relationships the more time we spend with one another the more we learn about each other. The more time we dig deeper into discovering who God is, the more we truly begin to know and understand who we are. The more we love Him and study His Word, then the more we know Him and we understand who we are. The more time we spend with Him and go deeper in the things of God then more is revealed to us. Once this happens, we can truly begin to gain an understand of who we really are and what Jesus has made available to us today.

I heard that needle scratch, too, Debbie!
Great question to stop us in our tracks, and it’s wonderful when God inquires so gently and yet we GET the point!
It is a great question isn’t it… A real stop and think on it moment. I am glad the needle scratching – stopping moment wasn’t just for me. 🙂 And I am ever so grateful that He is gentle and yet I understand. LOL thanks for always being faithful to leave comments 🙂

THank you Jas – It has been a wonderful week and thank you for asking. I hope yours is going smashingly well. 🙂
Isn’t it great when God asks us those profound questions that stop us in our tracks!
He once asked me what I wanted Him to do in a particular situation that I was praying for & when I told Him He asked
“Do you really want that or my Will for that situation?”
Which stopped me in my tracks! As I thought I had been praying His will! We think we know don’t we but His wisdom is so much greater!
Jennifer
Oh wow Jennifer! Yes, that question would stop me in my tracks too, hahaha, Yes, we do indeed think we know and then we realize, that we didn’t know as much as we thought we did. Thanks for sharing your experience. I so appreciate hearing from you.

Pretty deep and it makes me think. I am not really into open-ended questions but I do need to answer them with the help of God.
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
I am glad I made you think some Patrick… I think God likes us to search and go deeper for more of Him and for revelation, that is why He asks open ended questions sometimes… to provoke conversation and thinking. You have a wonderful weekend too!

Thank you for making us think a little deeper about who we are in Christ. I think we so often just take for granted that we belong to Him, but we forget that we need to study the Word and spend time with God so that we can grow in our relationship with Him and into our full potential as children of God.
Blessings to you, Debbie, and thanks for sharing with us at the #LMMLinkup!
You are welcome Gayl! and yes, I can see exactly what you are saying about taking it for granted. Blessings to you and thanks for stopping by and I am glad to linkup with #LMMLinkup
