To be or not to be … Fake or Follower that is the question that every believer is going to have to answer at some point whether in the here and now or on the other side of eternity.
Do I want to merely slide into heaven and live as I please while still on earth?”—Andi Andrew
This book caused me to take a good long hard look in the mirror and ask God to examine my heart. I believe that it is important that we truly examine our hearts and ask ourselves the tough question: Am I a fake? Or Am I a Follower?
As a ministry leader, this book also challenged me to ask myself a question that Andi herself asked: “Am I leading others to be fake and go through the motions of Christianity or am I living authentically and showing what it means to follow Jesus?”
In my own life, publicly and privately, I do my utmost to live as authentically as I can. Of course, I am not perfect, I mean who is? But I do strive to be a “what you see is what you get” type person. Yet, this book challenged me in ways I hadn’t thought of before. It made me realize, there are areas in my life that I could do better, I could go deeper, I could be more transparent. If we are honest with ourselves, we should be able to admit that we all have things in our life that we are working through.
I appreciated that as I read Andi’s words, I often found myself, nodding my head and thinking “yep, I’ve said that before.” Yes, I believe that too.” Or “Yes, I have experienced that as well.”
At the end of each chapter Andi also has included three “Making it Real” Questions, designed to get you asking the tough questions relating to the chapter content.
The title: “Fake or Follower” drew me in and I knew I needed to read this one. I am glad I did. Andi is a powerful voice in the church today and though she may seem young to some, she has wisdom and first-hand experience of what she has written about.
My prayer is that we each have the courage to make the necessary adjustments in our own lives and attitudes to live authentically as a follower of Jesus Christ.
My Amazon Review:
To be or not to be … Fake or Follower that is the question that every believer is going to have to answer at some point whether in the here and now or on the other side of eternity.
I want to be considered a follower of Christ and not a faker, but the truth is there have been times in my Christian walk that I would have fallen in the faker category. I know, it’s not great to admit, but it’s the truth. Even times as a mature believer and follower of Christ, I know what it takes to fake it or be authentic and the real danger lies within. As a pastor and ministry leader I appreciate the way Andi Andrew doesn’t hold back. She doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the truth and calling things the way there are. Every person who calls themselves a follower of Christ needs to read this book. As a pastor and ministry leader, I want the people under my leadership to read it. I was convicted at times to repent of my own attitude’s, but always inspired to live more authentically and to go deep! There are 10 power packed chapters where Andi covers everything from shallow faith, killing sacred cows, offense in the church, reconciliation in community, and living toward eternity. If you liked She is Free you will LOVE Fake or Follower!

Wow, a sobering topic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book along with the challenge.
Yes, Michele, it was a sobering topic, but I felt Andi handled it really well and got me to thinking and examining my own heart.
This might be a good one for my book club…adding it to my list!
Michelle, it is a good one for sure and would work well as a book club book. 🙂
It’s a good question. One that every Christian should ask themselves. Thank you for your honest review!
I agree Laurie and you are most welcome.
Thank you for sharing these convictions and this book! I know that over the years of growing up in the church I have had to confront some of those same issues in my own heart. It’s such a great question to pause and bring before the Lord in examination.
You are most welcome BettieG 🙂 I agree, growing up in the church doesn’t means we don’t need to still confront issues in our hearts. It is worth the pause and examination for sure

Oh Meg, you are gonna love it. It is challenge and inspiring. It’s one of those books that you wish you would have written yourself. I can’t wait to hear what you think about it once you read it. Blessings and have an awesome weekend.
Thank you for this book review Debbie. I know in social media, the ‘fake’ followers bother me for so many reasons. I can imagine God grieves when He sees us not fully in when it comes to our relationship with Him. I can struggle with being a fully authentic Christian when around my family particularly who are not ‘in’ like I am. I’ll have to look at getting this book!
You are most welcome Lynn! I do agree, it is so easy in social media to not be real and authentic. The struggle is real with all of us at some point or another. I am glad you will be looking into the book 🙂
