In Matthew 14 we find the story of Peter being brave and impulsive and stepping out of the boat to walk on water toward Jesus. As a young child, this story has always captivated and intrigued me. Being someone who was fearful, the things that Peter did throughout the scriptures always made me want to be like him. I wanted to be brave, bold, and a little impulsive, but I was always to afraid to do so.
I have shared before about the prophetic art ministry at our church, and the amazing talented people who participate using the gifts God has given. Usually, the paintings are sold and spoken for before I even get a chance to view them, much less purchase them. However, a Sunday morning a few months ago, this painting made a powerful impact on me.
Join me in today’s video as I share about this painting and as we dive a little deeper into what getting out of our boats look like. May you too realize that God is calling you, and all of us to step out of our boats. Then join me this Thursday as I share more Lesson’s from the Boat.
As I have been pondering over this story for years, one of the things that I have realized is that the very presence of Jesus makes a person Brave. Jesus’ presence made Peter brave. The presence of Jesus through the Holy Spirit makes me brave… Does it make you Brave too?
I feel God is saying to all of us, is that it’s time for us to get out of our comfort zone -and move forward!
It’s time to step out of the boat and it’s time for us to take the step of Faith – Jesus will meet us when we do,
Won’t you join me as we step out of our boats together. He is calling us out to the deep things He has for us.
PS – in August, I had a survey for a new linkup I will be starting in November… If you haven’t had the opportunity to share your thoughts or even if you had filled it out previously – could you take 2 minutes and let me know which day works best for you – the 3 top days (tied actually, were Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). I am trying to determine the best day to have my new linkup on.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Your opinion matters and your voice counts! 🙂 Click here to go to the survey

Great insights here!
The Lord used the story of Peter walking on water to draw me to Himself. Before I was a Believer, a friend of a friend invited me to do a Bible Study. She asked me what I struggled with and I said anxiety. One of the chapters talked about Peter looking at the waves and sinking and crying out in fear to Jesus, and then Jesus pulled Him up. I knew I wanted Jesus to pull me up and out of my fear and anxiety.
I loved your tweetable words. Very encouraging. Thanks for sharing!
Oh thank you so much Karen! I love how God used the story of Peter to draw you close and speak to you. what a powerful testimony. thank you for sharing that with me… and I am so glad that you like the tweetables too 🙂
Your vlogs always pump me up, Debbie. I hope someday I can meet you in person! I love this painting and all it represents. I won’t tell anyone you texted. *wink wink* Thanks so much for another great week of wisdom. The theme matches up with my reality. I brought a message at church Wednesday night for the first time ever! I was amazed how God took over. I am not a speaker.at.all. I am like a Moses, but when church was going to be cancelled I felt the Lord say, “Now.” I had been praying for an opportunity for months to…well..years I have wanted to share, though I am not a good speaker. And so I nervously texted the pastor’s wife and volunteered. Wouldn’t you know that night a new lady came that had never been there before?! She brought her kids too! So that night my faith was built up. Kicking fear to the curb!
Meghan – I am so glad that you are pumped up after watching my Vlogs! I too hope to meet you in person one day … hopefully sooner rather than later 🙂 We will have to be on the lookout for opportunities to do just that. 😉 Yay!! I am so incredibly proud of you for kicking fear to the curb and stepping out to text and ask for the opportunity! That is so awesome. God is looking for those with willing hearts and He fills in the rest! I love that your faith was built up and that your pastors said YES to letting you speak too…. yahoo…. and thanks for keeping the fact that I texted in church on the DL (downlow) hahha have an awesome weekend my fried – God is on the move
I am getting out of the boat if I can get into my car!! leaving in five minutes (i hope!!) for Lake Arrowhead to speak 5x – that’s a big lake and a lot of trusting in God – bless you, deb
PS I’m being asked to speak near Issaquah in May or April – would you need a speaker in your church around then – ? and I could combine the trips. Crossway Fellowship in Lynnwood is the church. you can message or email me if you want.
Sue, I pray you had a blessed tie in Lake Arrowhead speaking – what a wonderful, fun weekend. Oh and I am not sure about April/May – I will make a note, that you will be coming this way around then… we usually have our women’s retreat around that time and I also am gone myself traveling a lot speaking at various other events during those months too 🙂 Blessings
The painting is gorgeous! I love the way that it’s painted and the feeling that comes from her talent. LOL You texted in church? I love that. And I love that you have a reminder to hang in your home. What a encouraging piece to be brave, to step out! And you have been doing so much stepping out this year, and you’ve helped many of us become braver in our faith too.
I think it is gorgeous too! I am absolutely blessed to get to hag this painting on my wall, and so glad the painter is sharing her gifts with our church. Oh, yes, I totally texted in church – from the front row even. LOL You and I both have been doing a lot of stepping out this year, and I am so blessed to be in good company while doing it and also so very glad to help others be braver in their faith along the way!
Comment Debbie. Enjoyed this.

So encouraging to see and hear women using their blogs to spread the Good News. 🙂
