Did you know that a diamond is the hardest natural substance found on the Earth?

Yes, it’s true.

In fact, the word “Diamond” comes from the Greek word “Adamas” which means “unconquerable and indestructible”

Even the hardest rocks crumble with enough pressure and heat over time, but not a diamond.  God designed the creation process to create the most beautiful of things out of pressure.  Diamonds are made from a carbon substance much like coal.  Coal and carbon are plain, ordinary looking substances. Yet, when pressure is applied to them, what was once ordinary is now precious and highly sought after.  This is the case with diamonds.

Diamonds, like gold, are one of Gods most beautiful creations, and yet are formed under the most grueling of conditions.  They are a much sought after precious gemstone, but not until going through the refining and cleaning process.

There is a quote I found that says:

Diamonds do indeed dazzle, but there is so much more to them than meets the eye.  The same could be said of  people, in fact let’s look at some parallels between people and diamonds? There are four characteristics of diamonds, known informally as the four C’s.   Let’s look a little closer at the four C’s: carat, cut, color and clarity.

Carat

Carat refers to a diamond’s weight.  There are several Scriptures that talk about God weighing us, our life’s, and seeing how we measure up or balance out.

Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting (Daniel 5:27)

Let Him weigh me with accurate scales, And let God know my integrity (job 31:6)

When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come ” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand (Revelation 6:5)

Cut

Cut refers to the quality of the cut in getting a diamond into shape.  I used to think cut referred to the shape of a diamond, like pear or oval. However, a diamond is graded per proportions, symmetry, and polish.

The cut of a diamond determines its brilliance. Put simply, the better a diamond is cut, the more sparkle it will have.

Scripture talks about God needing to cut away areas in our lives that are not beneficial to us, or that need pruning for more growth.

God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses on your heart and your children’s hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live (Deuteronomy 30:6 )

In John 15 it talks about Jesus being the vine and us being the branches, and how God, the vine dresser prunes the branches from the vine.

Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit (John 15:2)

The process of cutting and pruning is not always pleasant, but it is necessary nonetheless.  This process of cutting is one that our flesh and human nature wants to rush through, but we need to allow God the time to do what He wants, and not stay stagnate in where we are at.

Diamonds are cut so that a light ray falling on the diamond is reflected multiple times inside the diamond and therefore sends light out in all directions. God has called his disciples to be diamonds, allowing His light to reflect through us.

How many facets have you allowed God to cut into/on you?

Color

The color of a diamond refers to how close to white or colorless it is. For fancy diamonds it is how intense is its hue.  No natural diamond is absolutely perfect, there are chemical impurities and structural defects that occur while it is being formed in nature under pressure.

Depending on the hue and intensity of a diamond’s coloration, a diamond’s color can either detract from or enhance its value.

Hold it in the light to see how it sparkles. The way that diamonds reflect light is unique: Inside the stone, the diamond will sparkle gray and white which is known as “brilliance” while outside of the gem, will reflect rainbow colors onto other surfaces.  This rainbow effect dispersed light is known as “fire”.

Scripture talks about how God will refine us and test the genuineness of our faith in the refiners fire.

This third I will put into the fire;  I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’     and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’” (Zechariah 13:9).

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1 Peter 1: 7).

See, I have refined you, though not as silver;   I have tested you in the furnace of affliction (Isaiah 48:10).

Clarity

Clarity refers to how free a diamond is from defects commonly referred to as inclusions.  A diamonds clarity refers to is quality and relates to its visual appearance and to its natural existence.

According to Wikipedia, “Diamond clarity is the appearance of internal characteristics of a diamond called inclusions, and surface defects called blemishes. Inclusions may be crystals of a foreign material or another diamond crystal, or structural imperfections such as tiny cracks that can appear whitish or cloudy.”

We too have blemishes in our life, the Bible calls them sin.  Our blemishes are also our character defects and our flaws.  Yet, we are also God’s most precious creation: You and I have been created by God with love.

… that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:15).

We are called to be Radiant, and when each of us shines bright, we make the darkness flee, but when we come together and stand side by side as sons & daughters of the King, we shine so bright, that the darkness doesn’t stand a chance.

Never ever forget: No matter where you came from. No matter the trials you have gone through, or are currently going through. …

You are God’s Diamond!

You are HIS masterpiece, a beautiful creation of God.
