I think sometimes as believers we think that life will be easy once we are saved, but Jesus never said things would be easy. In fact, He warned His disciples that opposition would come.Jesus warned them they would have difficulties, but He did promise to never leave them or forsake them.  As I was preparing a sermon recently, I came across this funny illustration.

“An airline company was disturbed over a high percentage of accidents, so they decided to eliminate human errors by building a completely computerized plane.

On its maiden voyage, the plane was filled with passengers. “Ladies and gentlemen,” came a voice over the PA system, “It may interest you to know that you are traveling on the world’s first completely automated and computerized plane. Now just sit back and relax, because nothing can go wrong….go wrong….go wrong….go wrong…..”

Oh really?!?  LOL

I don’t know about you, but it seems that while this last season has been filled with many highs, it has also been a season filled with obstacle after obstacle.

Have you ever been there?

Are you there now?

As I’ve been reading through the book of Acts these last few months, I noticed something: The early church was a church that Hell couldn’t handle!  Yes, that’s right, hell couldn’t stop the church from advancing and adding to their numbers daily.  The enemy came after the believers in the early church and they suffered persecution sometimes unto death, yet, they didn’t let it stop them from advancing the kingdom of God.

I want to be a person that hell can’t handle … I want our churches to be churches that hell is afraid of!

I know God has placed a determination, passion and fire inside of His people, us, His disciples.  He is calling us to be individuals that as a part of the church will step out to walk in His Kingdom calling on our lives.

This is why I have called you Peter (rock): for on this rock I will build My church. The church will reign triumphant even at the gates of hell.  Peter, I give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:18-19 The Voice).

God is calling us to be a people that hell can’t handle!

How do we become individuals and churches that hell can’t handle?

We first need to understand our position and our identity in Christ.  We are called to be a people and a church that the gates of hell cannot prevail against.

An individual or a church that hell can’t handle is a person/church that:

  • Understands its authority
  • Makes room for the Spirit of God
  • Knows how to pray
  • Worships and seeks God above all else
  • Doesn’t Back down
  • Embraces confession, repentance and forgiveness

A church that hell can’t handle is made up of individuals who are willing to repent and forgive.  Individuals that do not allow offense, issues, pride, anger, sin etc. to get in the way of what God is doing and wants to do in their lives and in the church.

God is raising up an army of believers that won’t be sidetracked or backdown from a fight.  The church is in a battle and we will be victorious.

Will you join me in being a person hell can’t handle?

This song, “Surrender” has been my anthem for the last few weeks and will be for the season to come.  Have you heard it? This is how I am doing my battles – in Worship – and I will be victorious because Jesus Christ is my King!
