Do you choose #OneWord for your year?
Maybe you choose a Scripture?
Maybe you choose a phrase, or nothing at all?
I would sure love for you to share with me in the comments what you do and what God has been speaking to you regarding this coming year.
I have only been participating in the #OneWord movement for 4 years.
Each year it seems that I get to the end of the year and I’ve already felt an urging or nudge in a certain direction, but this year, has been more of a wrestling match with God.
I wanted a word or phrase that seemed a little safer. A road more traveled maybe. But apparently that is NOT what God wanted for me. He wants to stretch me and take me deeper. He wants to grow my faith and my courage. He wants to increase my boldness for prayer and belief, or so it would seem.
Even though this year’s word had been pinging around in my head, I never let it drop into my heart. Until a few weeks ago.
Truthfully, I think I was a little afraid. Afraid of what others might think of this word – (who does she think she is?). Afraid of what God might require of me and maybe afraid of failure too.
I know it seems strange but when you see the word, maybe you’ll better understand.
My #OneWord for 2019 is …
This word is so full of hope, power and possibility. This word is bigger than anything I could ever do on my own. It’s bigger than anything any of my friends or family could help me with. This word, “Miracles” requires a total dependence upon God. It requires me to go deeper and further in my faith that I have ever have before. It will require me to go deeper, trust more fully and be more courageous. I will need to surrender to God and obey 100%. But I am desperate to see this word manifest in the lives of those I love and in my own life and our church too.
God is a God of miracles! From Genesis to Revelation, we read of His mighty works and His powerful Display. He is a God that never changes and He continues to do miracles today.
As I read the New testament and study the book of Acts, I see miracles were a normal part of their lives. Jesus healed the sick and those who were lame, blind or deaf. He also showed His disciples how to do it. But the miracles He performed went beyond healing. He multiplied food, calmed storms, brought the dead to life and turned water into wine just to name a few.
Miracles followed those who followed Jesus and it increased the faith of those who saw or participated in it.
I want to have Great Faith. I want to believe God for the impossible and see Him move mountains. I want my friends and family members to receive their miracle healings.
Ephesians 3:20 is one of my life verses and God has been challenging me about it lately. Almost daring me if you will:
Debbie, do you believe that I (God) can achieve infinitely more than your greatest request? (healing my loved ones of cancer, and other sickness).
Debbie, will you allow My(God’s) mighty power to work through you to accomplish things?
This year is going to be an exciting one. One of learning, stretching, equipping, trusting, growing and expanding. At times, it may even be a battle, but I know God is always Victorious. It is going to be a year of wholehearted abandoned to God and His Word. It’s going to be an extraordinary year.
Thank you to all who have been praying for my family and loved ones. I have been at home caring for my dad and saw a miraculous turn around in his condition in the 10 days I was with him. My aunt who is on hospice has already lived longer than the doctors predicted, we are continuing to pray for a miracle, she has a lot of life yet to live. And then the others who I am praying for to receive a miracle, there stories and testimonies are still in process. Please continue to pray for God’s miracles to touch them and all who need it.

Debbie, I think this word – Miracles – is perfect for you and so aligns with all God has brought about with your book. This morning your post reminded me of a verse I often go to and pray: Habakkuk 3:2 – the prophet had heard of God’s deeds, stood in awe of what He had done and he prayed for God to repeat them in his day. To do it again. We surely need to be praying in this way. Thank you for reminding me and encouraging me to ask the Lord to make His deeds known again in my time. Blessings!
Thank you, Joanne! You are right, God has done amazing, mighty, and miraculous things with my book and I am sure there’s more to come. Thank you for the encouragement and also for the Scripture, I like it very much – they prayed and stood in awe – watching God to what only He can do! Thank you for reminding me of the miracles I have already seen God do on my behalf, and also for reminding me I just need to cry out to God and stand back in awe and let Him work! Blessings
Thanks for sharing your word and your thinking behind it! I didn’t choose a word this year, or maybe it’s more accurate to say that a word did not choose me. I’m coming into 2019 with quiet confidence and a very careful paying-attention-to-the-voice-of-God spirit. There’s a lot to do, and I don’t want to get ahead of myself or His leading.
Michele, you are most welcome for my sharing. I almost wasn’t going to choose a word, so I completely understand not. I think this word choose me, more than me choosing it, I like the way you put that. I think it’s always a good thing to following the leading and prompting of the Lord and see where He wants to take us. I often get ahead of myself too – I like to help God out that way sometimes, and get way ahead of myself and Him too – I don’t think he appreciates it very much, but I am learning. I like that you are coming into the year with quiet confidence and eyes and ears wide open – that is the best position to take and place to be. <3 thanks for sharing - Blessings
I love your word – powerful – and the One who has the power is always displaying His miraculous works. Mine is NEW – He is doing new things this year, I can feel it…
Thank you Paris! You are so right – the ONE who has the power is always displaying His miracles. I like your word for the year being NEW – that has a whole lot of possibilities and freshness tied to it. Enjoy
Miracles = a fabulous word. Oh I have some stories for you. xo
Susan – I can’t wait to hear the stories. I am sure they are amazing and will help to increase my faith for what God is going to do! Thanks 🙂
Thank you for sharing your word. I think “miracles” is the perfect word for you, Debbie! I look forward to reading about it this year. My word for the year is “balance”. This is the first year I have selected a word to focus on, but God picked this one for me.
Thank you, Laurie! I am looking forward to seeing what all God does and sharing all about His amazing feats. I will shout it from the mountain top so all can know God is real and He is a miracle working God. I like that this is the first year you have chosen a word. That is exciting and it will be fun to see how it plays out for you this year as well. Don’t you just love how God picks these words for us in the seasons we need them the most? Blessings
What a great word from God, Debbie. I love this. May you continue to see God at work in your life in the New Year and beyond. I know He will use you because of your willingness to serve. Have a wonderful weekend, and God bless.
Thank you, Horace! I totally receive the blessings you wrote too – I pray that I will see God work in many mighty ways this year in my own life. Have a blessed weekend yourself.
What an exciting word! Sometimes I think that miracles are like an afterthought for God, but you reminded me today how much He loves them!
Rebecca, thank you! It is an exciting word isn’t it… I have to stop looking at it as waaaay bigger than me, which of course it is, but instead look at it as exciting because it is bigger than me and God is in the business of taking care of those things – I just need to trust and obey Him in the process. Blessings to you. <3
I love the boldness of this! My verse is 2 Tim 4:5 laurensparks.net
Thanks Lauren, I guess it is really bold, isn’t it?! YAY God… I love your verse for the year – staying focused and being alert is going to reap many great rewards for you in this year. Blessings
a perfect one word for us all ! I’m praying for many miracles mostly having to do with my adult children and their friends! Thanks, deb.
Amen Sue! A perfect word for us all. It seems we all need miracles in our lives and those we love, they just come in different shapes and sizes. Praying you see those miracles for your kids and their friends this year! Blessings
Miracles reminds me somewhat of my One Word for last year: Mystery. 🙂 My choice this year is Hope!
Oh Lisa, Mystery – now that is an interesting word… full of intrigue and well, mystery lol … at all God could possible do. I like it and I like the word Hope you have chosen for this year – Hope is a foundational key for us as believers
I’m loving miracles. I started with grace but I use more than one word, I’m a wordy. John 14:27, His peace has been on my heart for months now, something we need for our miracles.
Thanks Rebecca! I am a little wordy too sometimes, but I like you are starting somewhere and adding to it, and great Scripture too. Yes, I agree, we do need both grace and peace for miracles. Blessings
The first word that came to mind as I seriously considered this, was the word, survive. But that sounds so weak, doesn’t it? After a few adjustments, my word is OVERCOME. Stronger, more positive, don’t you think?
Linda, I don’t think survive sounds weak, I mean I suppose it could and I understand what you mean, but when I think of survive, I think of someone who has been in the trenches and overcome – they have battled and are Victorious. Which you already worked your way through the process and came out with exactly what you needed YAY – God is so good and yes, I like overcome – it is more positive and strong – it’s a I’m standing at the top of the mountain shouting moment. Blessings <3
Debbie, I like your word-miracles. It is a word full of hope. And it points directly to divine, God-things that only He can pull off.
I’ve never chosen a one word for the year…or resolutions. But this year the Lord led me to a Scripture to focus on for the year. I wrote a blog post on it several weeks ago and so excited for how God’s going to flesh it out and use it in my life.
“In him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28a
Thank you Karen. Yes, this word points directly to GOD and His divine nature – only HE can pull it off – I just have to work on myself and getting myself to a place where He can freely flow and work through. I need to pray more, read His word more, fast and step out more boldly to pray for those in need of a miracle. I too usually try to stay away from resolutions, they often don’t make it past the middle of January. LOL — I am going to have to go read your blog post from a few weeks ago. I love this Scripture from Acts – my kids used to sing a song in church that was based on this Scripture and it always was so upbeat and felt like a dancing and celebration song. Thanks for sharing and I am exciting to see how God fleshes it out for you too.
Thank you for hosting. I love sharing with your readers and always find inspiration here. Have a blessed week! #OverTheMoon #ThursdayFavoriteThings
you are most welcome Marilyn! <3
Your word GREATLY encouraged me!
Just this week I prayed, “Lord, I need a miracle” concerning a trial I am currently in. The God of the Old Testament who performed epic miracles is still the same God today, and He can do above and beyond all that I ask or imagine.
Thanks for sharing.
Karen, I am so glad to hear that my word encouraged you! I am agreeing with you and praying for you to see God move in epic ways for you during this trial you are in. Yes, God in the miracle business and does things way above all we can think or image! Blessings to you and I am looking forward to hearing the testimony of God’s miracle for you.
Miracles is an awesome word for 2019! Like you, God gave me a word that I wrestled with. My word is comfort. I thought it sounded too “soft”, too “stay in your comfort zone-ish”. But then God spoke to me clearly from Isaiah 51:3 that He this year is a year where He is going to comfort the “waste places”, the places of devastation, ruin and destruction, in me, the people I love, our church. It’s a Repairer of the Breach season for us! Praise God!
Elizabeth, it’s good to know I am not the only one wrestling with God over a word. LOL But OH, How I like wht God has spoken to you about this year being a place of repair and bring comfort to the waste places! WOW, God is up to something big to launch you forward – fortified, restored, renewed and refreshed! Thank you so much for sharing <3
WOW! God is about do something phenomenal in your life. My word for 2019 is Do! God is prompting me to be diligent with what he has set my hands to do. He is stretching me this year as I step into writing a book. Pray for me Sis.
Calvonia, I agree, God is up to something Big. I am looking forward to what He is going to show me this year. and your word DO is a good one too – being faithful, obedient and diligent to DO what He is calling you to do. YAY for writing a book – I am a huge champion for people writing their stories, I am praying for you! You’ve Got this!
Praying you will see God’s amazing power of miracles in your life this year, Debbie! My phrase for this year is… Do the work. Like you, I was afraid to accept my challenge from God. What if I fail? What if I look stupid? But this is the goal God has given me, so I accept His perfect will and press on toward the goal of the upward call. Blessings to you!
Thank you Connie! This word that God gave me is so needed right now in the lives of so many that I love. It is a press in and hang on to see God move miraculously moment for many of them. I am glad that you didn’t let the what if’s or fear hold you back from accepting God’s, “Do the Work” phrase for your life this year. I am looking forward to seeing what all God will do in both our lives this year as we have accepted His desire for us and as we push forward. Blessings
I love your word miracles! What a light and hope-filled word! I didn’t choose a word this year but you’ve motivated me to re-think that. I will be praying for you that you experience miracles every day!
Thank you Julie 🙂 I am leaning into this word. I am glad I gave you some motivation to rethink – You will when when the time is right and what the word should be. Blessings
Perseverance!!
Great word Summer!
I love your word for this year. I am praying for you, my friend! My word for this year is “Relationship.” As in deepening my relationship with God. All of your post and re-reading your books have been so much help with this already, but there is a lot more to do. I have talked about it a little, as far as what my goals are, on the blog. I have a long way to go! But as always, I am excited about where God is going to take me! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Amy! I could use all the prayers! I like the word “relationship” I am excited for you as well, to see what God does with this word and where He takes you this year. 🙂 Thank you for sharing with me. I have been hit an miss with linkups since caring for my dad most of January so I will have to go back and catch what you shared on the blog.
TRUE. And the phrase/scripture (paraphrase) verse that went with it: “the One who calls you is Faithful and True.” As more days have gone by, I am beginning to realize that God seems to be calling me closer and closer to who He made me to be…to be ‘true’ to me.
I also think ‘miracle’ is a great word for you and very timely with what God has been doing in and through you!
Thank you so much Becky! God calling you closer is such an awesome thing. I pray that as he does draw you closer and closer that your TRUE You comes through more and more. And as far as the word miracle for me, I know it is timely, but it sure feels like everything but miracles are happening right now. But I also know God is faithful and He can turn things around in an instant
