Welcome!
Thank you for joining me each week as we continue our journey through Psalms 23. It is one of the most well-known Scriptures. Many quote it or recite it by wrote, but have we taken the time to dive into the depth and richness found in these six short verses? Do we know what it means to live and be a Psalm 23 people?
If you have missed previous posts on Psalm 23, you can find them here:
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake (Psalm 23:3 NIV).
My brain and my body were physically tired. My soul had been gasping for air for quite some time and felt drained. My spirit was a tad tired and in need of refreshing too.
As I sank back into the cushions of the porch swing, a released a weary sigh-of-relief. Sitting in a stranger’s back yard, I was finally able to take a few minutes and breathe deeply. In the midst of chaos, just sitting and swinging, gently swaying back and forth brought my soul much refreshing. However, that didn’t stop the busy freeway of activity racing back and forth in my mind. I knew if I was to truly get deep soul refreshing, I was going to need to cease the racing thoughts and be purposeful about being still in the presence of the Lord. No easy task, but yet a necessary one. I began to recite Psalm 23 in its entirety. I would recite a verse, pause, and say a small prayer for a situation I was currently going through then move to the next verse and so on. When I got to verse three, the prayer was not small.
“Oh, Lord,” I began … “do I even need some refreshing for my soul! But right now, God with all that is going on, I need major guidance as well. I need clear direction.”
Have you ever been there? Needing guidance but nothing seems clearly defined? Then on top of that you need time for some soul refreshing? Yeah? Me too!
Truth be told, I often find myself on the edge of exhaustion and balancing many things and juggling many balls in the air all at the same time. I thought that when we “officially” stepped down from our senior pastor role that things would get a little easier. Boy, oh boy was I wrong. The many pressures of life and current situations continued to pile on. It made it hard to breathe at time let alone breathe deeply. But I was comforted by the promises found in Psalm 23:3.
He makes me whole again,
steering me off worn, hard paths
to roads where truth and righteousness echo His name (Psalm 23:3 The Voice).
In that moment, when I had a chance to sit still and silence the chaos, I needed God to speak. I need him to make me whole again. I needed him to steer me to the path of truth and righteousness. I needed a soul refreshing, and He was giving it to me!
How about you?
Are you in need of soul revival and refreshing?
Are you in need of direction?
Are you seeking truth but not finding it?
Then Psalm 23 is for you right now. Meditate on it. Pray it. Speak it over your situation and receive the refreshing that comes from God’s promises.
That’s where he restores and revives my life.
He opens before me the right path
and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness
so that I can bring honor to his name (Psalm 23:3 TPT).
Where is it that God revives and restores our lives?
Verse 2 in The Passion Translation(TPT) tells us: its where “His tracks take me to an oasis of peace near the quiet brook of bliss.”
Just like sheep need a shepherd to lead them to clean water, food and places of safety, we need God to lead us. Sheep don’t always know of the dangers that lie ahead, but a Good Shepherd does. A good shepherd cares for the sheep and the sheep can trust and rely on the shepherd’s guidance.
How does Soul Refreshing Come?
It comes when we allow ourselves to be still.
It comes when we all ourselves to be made whole.
It comes when allow ourselves to be guided and led to a place of peace and quiet.
It comes when we trust in the ONE whose name is Yahweh!
Welcome and Thank you for joining me for #TuneInThursday it is an honor to have you here!

Words have power.
To encourage. To comfort. To strengthen. To heal.
Especially when they come from God.
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement Bible Study: Living a Lifestyle of Encouragement shows us how to follow Jesus by loving on and building up His church … one person, and one God-centered word, at a time. Diving deeply into Scripture, Pastor Debbie Kitterman beautifully unpacks the Biblical precedent of prophetic encouragement and teaches you how to hear from God. By doing so, you’ll bravely step into your calling to #BeTheGift others need.
In this stunning six-week study, you will:
- Examine the model of encouragement Jesus established for us.
Define the simple (and Biblical) concept of prophetic encouragement.
Learn to identify and test the voice of God in your life.
