I am excited to introduce a series that began five weeks ago and continues with part two for the next three weeks. This series on perseverance is one I have been doing with three of my incredible friends. Some weeks, I will share a “Lessons from the Lake” Video on the topic as well.
Together we will share insight, challenges, and our faith through our journeys of perseverance. Please join myself, Mary Geisen, Holly Barrett, and Patricia Krank as we learn from each other and share encouragement with our own stories of perseverance.
[Tweet “Come join @MyOldThingsNew, @HollySBarrett, @MaryGeisen and me for part 6 in a series on #perseverance.”]
Part 1 in the Perseverance series (Bravely Overcoming Fear) can be found HERE, Part 2 (Persevering in Recovery) can be found HERE, Part 3 (When Prayers Remain Unanswered) can be found HERE … Part 4 (The Sting of Rejection) can be found HERE …. Part 5 (Wishing, Waiting, & Pursuing) can be found HERE …
Today Holly will be sharing about persevering in change, something I know all too well.
In fact, in 2015 I shared 5 things I was learning as I was making The Journey through Change. You can check it out Here if you wish.
Whether we like it or not, things never stay the same. Change, is going to come. We can run from it, try to hide from it, but we can not escape it. Eventually it finds us.
John Maxwell says, “Change is inevitable. Growth is Optional.”
Sometimes, I wish change would be optional. Then again, when I read quotes like the one below, I understand the necessity of change.
If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, then we aren ‘t really living. Gail Sheehy
I want to live, really live, and in order to do so, then things must change in my life. I don’t want to stay the same. I want to grow, and mature and become a better, stronger, more loving version of who I am now.

Holly says, “When change arrives, we have three choices. We can run from it. Or stubbornly try to resist it. But we always have the option to embrace it. Embracing change may sound like a tall order, but it is possible!”
Holly goes on to share a couple of suggestions to help you get through the changes in your life… start reading her post below and then click on over to read the rest.
Turn and Face the Changes
By Holly Barrett
A lot of words have been written about change. Songs have been sung. Tears have been cried. And heels have been dug in.
Yeah, that last part may just be me! Because in the last 10 years, I have faced an awful lot of change. …

2. Do you wonder if God still speaks today? Do you wonder if He would ever speak to you personally? Do you long to hear the voice of God in your life?
Have your read other books on hearing from God, but long for hands on practical application? or are you looking for ways to move you forward hearing from God?
If you answered YES to any of those questions, then I have exactly what you need. I now have an online e-course designed to equip you in understanding that God still speaks today, and He longs to speak directly to you, through His word, and others. He longs to encourage you, strengthen you and comfort you. The training on this site, is fully based on Scripture, and taken from my training manual Releasing God’s heart through Hearing His Voice.
I have been teaching these classes internationally for the last 10+ years equipping and training believers in discerning the Ways God speaks. God is speaking, Can you Hear Him?

I have this John Maxwell quote along with several in a visible place in my office. It seems we can never escape change, but if we can see the long term benefits, then stepping into change becomes a bit easier. Great series here ladies!
Crystal – I too like to put quotes around where I can see them as a constant reminder. Yes, it seems we can never really escape change but you are right the more we se the benefit the easier it becomes to accept it. So glad you are enjoying the series. It has been fun to be a part of it
PS. John Maxwell is a pastor at my church so it is such a treat to get this teaching from him!!
oh wow – that’s awesome Crystal — you are so blessed to be able to sit under his teaching in person!
Truly inspirational!!
I’ve learned that changing my perspective about things makes me finally be more open to them—even when it takes awhile, LOL!

Jodie – Yes, Holly’s testimony is inspirational isn’t it ? ! I have the same issue about changing my perspective, I know it makes things better, but sometimes it takes awhile for me to come around and remember that 🙂
I have been thinking about this subject a lot lately. So many people fear all of the changes in the world and wish life were “simpler” like when they were younger. I’ll have to check out the series.
Thanks for sharing on #FridayFrivolity
Audrey – Yes, you are so right – we often fear change, but in the end when we are on the other side of it, we find it is often much better than we expected 🙂 So glad to have you stop by and check out our series.
