What exactly is prophecy?
Is it even Biblical?
and if it is, is it for today?
Yes, it is Biblical. (1 Corinthians 14 plus many others)
Yes it is for today. (Hebrews 13:8)
To learn exactly what prophecy is listen in, and join me for today’s video on Lessons from the Lake.
In this Thursday’s upcoming post, Prophecy – What is it? I will expand more on what is prophecy? from my teaching found in my training manual, “Releasing God’s Heart, Through Hearing His Voice.” You can find it on Amazon if you would like to check it out.
**Update: Thank you to everyone who notified me that my website went down last week. As soon as I tried to schedule Thursday’s blog post “Not Against Flesh and Blood,” on Wednesday of last week, the server with all my content when down and was down for 3+ days. Bad enough right? But then after She Speaks, I was off to a writing retreat with a group of blogging friends and the wifi – mysteriously goes out!?!? Can’t even get connected with me cell phone.
Ok God, what’s up?
Oh, it’s a Spiritual attack? OK going into Warfare mode!
I fully believe the message in this post is powerful and will give us a Kingdom perspective. Remember, Our battle is not against flesh and blood!
For those of you who have been praying for me … She Speaks was absolutely the best! I had very successful and promising appointments with two publishers. For now, I pray and trust God in what will come of them. Keep praying with and for me.
if you missed Last Thursday’s post Not Against Flesh and Blood … I highly encourage you to go check it out.

Beautiful post, very Biblical and soundly researched. I blog very similarly over on mine, especially on the link between body, soul and spirit and how illnesses can often have a spiritual root. Found you at A Little R and R
Lizzy, that is great – I will stop over and check your blog out too – its so nice when you find other like minded bloggers! thank you for stopping by today.
I didn’t grow up understanding much about prophecy. The past 4 years I’ve learned more and seen more about it. It’s been so enriching! Thanks for sharing more on this topic, Debbie.
Lisa, you are so very welcome – I grew up not knowing very much about it either, but am so glad I have since then learned more. You are right, it is so very enriching, especially when we can bless others with words of encouraging, comfort, and stregnthening 🙂
Oh yes, I believe in prophecy and every other gift of the Spirit. Loving your vlogs!
Susan – thank you so much! You are such an encouragement to me! I also believe in all the other gifts of the Spirit too and I am so glad you enjoy the vlogs!
Debbie, I enjoyed your vlog today! Have you written anything that talks about how to know if one has the gift of prophecy? When I took a gifts test a couple years ago, one of my highest I scored on was exhortation and encouragement. I look forward to next week and learning more! Thanks for linking up too!
Hey Meg! So yes, my training manual Releasing Gods Heart through Hearing His Voices teaches you and gives you activation throughout so you can step out and begin hearing from God. So, I will be writing a post on this soon, but as I am still on vacation and have limited internet access it won’t be this week… I believe there are different levels of the prophetic and not everyone has Prophecy as their main gift, but everyone can prophesy (or I like to say – hear from God) as outlined in 1 Corinthians 14:1 where it says eagerly desire all the spiritual gifts especially the gift of prophecy – then if you jump down to verse 3 it tells you in what context – to encourage, comfort, and strengthen one another. I heard a speaker liken the spiritual gifts one time to a swimming pool – everyone can be in the shallow end – but not all can be in the middle or the deep end. be looking for the upcoming blog post that I will do soon on the 4 levels explain what I mean with Scriptural support – But, if you have exhortation and encouragement as your main gifts, you probably have this gift – it just needs to be activated in you. 🙂 Oh, and I will be doing online classes hopefully starting in the fall where you will get access to me teaching all the material, plus homework assignments and activation not in the book 🙂 Blessings
I believe in the gift of prophecy and I like how you presented it here. Not everyone has the gift of prophecy (1 Cor 12:1-11), but it’s good for the church to understand how it operates. I like how you brought out love. A neat thought if you look at it in context, the love chapter (13) is sandwiched between chapters 12 and 14 of 1 Corinthians on the gifts. The last verse in chapter 12 says to desire the best gift, which is love. That is why the love chapter is sandwiched here. All these gift are/should be motivated by love. Blessed to be your neighbor at #thoughtprovokingThursday 🙂
Kelly – I think we are on the same page — I believe there are different levels of the prophetic and you are right not everyone has Prophecy as their main gift, but everyone can prophesy (or I like to say – hear from God) as outlined in 1 Corinthians 14:1 where it says eagerly desire all the spiritual gifts especially the gift of prophecy – then if you jump down to verse 3 it tells you in what context – to encourage, comfort, and strengthen one another. I heard a speaker liken the spiritual gifts one time to a swimming pool – everyone can be in the shallow end – but not all can be in the middle or the deep end. I am still on vacation and having limited internet access but in an upcoming blog post, I will do a whole post on the 4 levels explain what I mean with Scriptural support – I sure hope you will come back then and see what you think. Also I teach on 1 Cor 13 – after all if we don’t have love and if love isn’t our motive for any of the gifts, we are nothing but a bunch of loud noise and hot air. I am so blessed you were my neighbor today – thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you again.
Encourage, comfort, and exhort — Love how you narrowed the purpose of this spiritual gift down, Debbie.
When I studied spiritual gifts back in the day, what stood out to me about this gift is that those who have it are “black and white” people. They don’t see gray. They have a clear understanding of God’s Truth and communicate is accurately. They don’t shy away from “speaking the truth in love.”
I think it’s important to have a friend in your life who is a bit of a Paul prophet — who has wisdom and is not scared to tell you the truth.
Great VLOG, Debbie. Blessings
Lyli – THANK YOU! I too think it is important to have people in our lives that we can trust who will speak wisdom, tempered in truth and love. I don’t want just es people around me, I want people who will love me, yet challenge me to be better. 🙂 Oh and Yes, most people who are prophetic see things as very black and white, I tend to be like that, but I also have learned to see some of the gray…. I think sometimes people hide behind it as an excuse to say whatever they want. I am so glad you could stop in today
Hi Debbie!
Visiting from Spiritual Sundays and so glad I did–your Vlog hit the mark for me, stirring up some things I’d laid aside for a few years on the back burner. Of late, I feel some dormant gifts rising to the surface once again. My focus had changed for some years from the prophetic, but the Lord is reviewing old terrain for me in such times as these. Praying for boldness and clarity with a pure heart going forward. And–I saw your Word for this year was Advance. Mine was Go Forth.
God’s got something up his sleeve . . .
Joy!
Kathy
P.S. Subscribed. Hope you do the same at my place. Would love your thoughts on the free e-book devotional I’m offering called The Gatekeeper’s Key! It came with the Go Forth thingy.
Hi Kathy – and welcome! Yes, God surely does have something in mind – I am so glad He is stirring and reviving some dormant gifts in you.. I love that your word is Go Forth – very similar indeed. I will surely hop on over and check out your site and sign up 🙂 I appreciate you stopping by and sharing your thoughts today – Have a fantastic weekend

Audrey – no they are definitely no fun – when on the road, or any other time too LOL I am so technologically challenged when something goes wrong, I just want to cry .. thanks for stopping by today 🙂
Oh how I love this! Thank you so much, Debbie!
Lisa – you are so very welcome, I am so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Debbie, I really love your weekly video series. And I really enjoyed hearing about prophecy. This is a subject I don’t know much about. I like to think that I call out the good in people, that I can see their strength and help them find the way that they can build up on them. But when I hear from God I see it more in things that He puts in my way. Like the rainbows He gives me when I’m at my lowest. Or the way that I can see things He’s put in our path to lead us to knowing we are doing what He wants us to. I really can’t wait to learn more about hearing about the way God speaks. Thank you so much for always being an encourager and for always giving us lessons from the lake that help us in our faith.
Nikki – THANK YOU! I am having fun recording the videos too. 🙂 I am so very glad for this medium of creativity to share my heart and message with others. I too think you are very good at encouraging and seeing others strengths! Or at least I always feel that way from reading your blog posts, and you comments to me and others. I so enjoy and look forward to your comments and thoughts each week 🙂 I like that God puts things right in front of you as you are journeying through life to give you the assurance that He is leading you. I love it.
I enjoyed your vlog. It’s good to hear you speak and share your heart for God. Blessings to you, Debbie! Thanks for sharing with us at #LMMLinkup!
thank you Gayl – I really do enjoy speaking a lot – it is a more natural form of communication for me. 🙂
