Today I am guest posting over at Lyli Dunbar’s Faith on Fire Linkup. Lyli is doing a new series entitled “Refined” and I have the honor of kicking off the series. You can start reading the post below, but then hop on over to Lyli’s place and leave me a comment there plus if you could leave a comment here letting me know you stopped by it would be awesome too!
Tears began to form as I hung up the phone. My husband had called to let me know he would be working late again. I love my children, but I needed a break, they needed their dad and I desperately needed him home. I was 25 when I began praying a seemingly innocent prayer earnestly seeking God with a few simple requests: a new church, a new house and a new job for my husband. Even as I prayed, I was creating my own plan of how it should look. This prayer forever changed the trajectory of my life.
Have you ever prayed a prayer that brought significant change to your life?
Before we go any further I have a confession: I hate change! It’s a nasty five letter word that I dislike, or at least I used to. You see, I used to be a control freak. I was the type of person who had plans for the backup plans. If something was going to happen or go wrong with the original plan, I had another plan. I needed to be able to control the situation and change just didn’t fit in my vocabulary and if it did, it was never in a good way.
I’ve heard it said that frustration is a catalyst for change and I’ve learned it’s true. Frustration was the driving force behind my prayers back then. I wanted change, truly I did, but I wanted it my way, in my time and fitting into my plan. That is until God in His sovereignty decided it was time I needed refining and change was the vehicle He was going to use to bring it about.
Have you ever wanted something to change in your life, but then when it did, it wasn’t at all how you had pictured it?
Yes, God answered all three of my prayers at once, however, it wasn’t exactly in the way I had planned. His plan involved change in every area of my life. His plan involved …

Yes, change can be hard, but also refreshing! It’s good to shake things up a bit. I’ve discovered that God’s not all that interested in my comfort zones–unless it’s Him!
I agree Linda, God is definitely not interested in my comfort zones either LOL I never used to think of change as refreshing, but things have changed in my heart. 🙂 Blessings
I really don’t like change either…too many tragedies in my life (my children & husband’s deaths) hitting from left field, that I just didn’t see coming.
But I gave them to the Lord & got on with it.
Blessings,
Jennifer
Oh Jennifer, I am so sorry that change came in the for of tragedies with the deaths of your loved ones. That is difficult no matter how you look at it and understandable how it came out of left field for sure. I pray that as you gave it to the Lord, He brought you the comfort and peace you needed. Blessings to you as well. Big Hugs to you too
Yes, change can be difficult but God does often use it to refine us. Can’t wait to read the rest.
thanks for stopping by Amy and taking the time to read the first half of the post here before jumping over to Lyli’s 🙂
I adapt well to change when it’s my idea. O.o I know, I know…
I am thankful for those in my life that serve to sharpen me in my walk and continue to humble me, like my kids. 🙂
Visiting you from http://www.christianmomfellowship.com
I completely agree Kris, change isn’t so bad when it’s our idea is it? LOL I am glad you have learned to be thankful for those times when it has come that it wasn’t your idea, but you allowed it to sharpen you for the next season of Life. Thank you for stopping by today. Blessings
